Susan Gaskill Memorial Playground
Our next big project is thanks to legacy planning and part of our commitment to connect with our neighbors: A NEW PLAYGROUND
In the summer of 2009, St. Stephens built a timber play structure that neighbor children and our own families have thoroughly enjoyed. It has been repaired and reinforced multiple times and has lasted longer than anyone ever anticipated. In September 2024, when our beloved long-time member, Susan Gaskill, neared the end of her journey with brain cancer, she and her husband, Rick, began planning how she wanted to be remembered. Susan desired that any money donated in her memory be used to build a new playground that would serve the neighborhood for decades to come.
Rick's active involvement in the field of Play Therapy and related research has spread the word about "Susan's Playground" around the world. Almost thirty thousand dollars was donated within a short time after Susan's death. Following Susan's passing, three more saints of our congregation joined the great cloud of witnesses. Their families have also asked that donations be made in their memories go to make this dream a reality. You can click on their photos below to learn more about each of these beloved children of God and how we will honor them with special parts of this playground.
"Susan’s Playground" will provide a safe, developmentally staged play area for kids from the neighborhood and our parish to gather, explore, and work on their interactive play skills.
If you want to donate to bring this playground to life, you can use our secure online donation portal below. We will also gladly accept "old fashioned" checks mailed to the parish office.
